This stunning tiny-stitched petitpoint panel has the shape to suggest it was made for a tea cozy, but it's much larger at 18.5" long and 15" in height. I suspect it may have been mounted in a top portion of a dressing screen, or perhaps a fire screen. Stitches are in wool and silk yarn with the tiniest guage. I've photographed with a tape measure across the stitches so you can see it's beautifully done, one stitch at a time. Well set on the canvas, it must have been worked on a stretcher. It begs now to be framed or worked up into the top of an elegant down-filled throw pillow. You can see from the backside, there isn't much fade to the old yarns, and the color is beautiful.  I see it mounted on a heavy silk pillow front, or perhaps silk velvet, trim around the top arch, and lushly fringed as a rectangular pillow. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. It's strong and supple, and would be suitable for making up into a throw pillow. Shown in full, I can see a couple of very tiny spots rough on the yarn, perhaps a tiny moth nibble, but with such small stitches, it doesn't catch the eye. No holes or torn areas. I'd date this one late 1700s to perhaps as late as 1830s, but not later. Has the aesthetic of the French Romantic era themes in art.
