Cutest little thing! Charming little gold embossed red leather "book" opens to reveal itself a fully stocked sewing etui, necessaire which has a sterling silver & 18k gold vermeil handled scissors, sewing thimble, 2 mother of pearl silk winders and 4 petit lathe-turned rosewood spools, a mirror, and a covered compartment. An elongated open space to the front likely once held a small scent bottle, typically found in early sewing etui and box. The demure size of this set makes it an exceptionally charming addition to your collection. Full measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, dates to c.1810-30, and remains remarkably complete with original fitted sewing tools. The outer cover is very nicely preserved as you can see - looks like an opulent little prayer book, really, with embossed clasp. Interior has the old silk fabric pad and matching compartment cover with its tiny ring handle. The mirror of the case is beneath the fittings for the mother of pearl silk winders. I'm fascinated to find all 4 tiny spools in place and unused. A novelty set or gift, it's been very well treasured since Napoleon - Louis-Philippe eras.
