The magnifying glass is clear and crisp and undamaged, hinged to fold into the 4" long case which serves also as its handle when in use. A desktop item, but also one which could be tucked into a vest pocket. Back when I found it in France, I had to consider if it might be natural shell, but the appearance and consistency is more that of horn. Lots of photos, and measurements are noted on photos. We've photographed it against some antique silk embroidery panels just for color and ambiance, and those are not included.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it is a 19th century item, probably early rather than late. Lens magnifies well. I am unsure how to evaluate it but it's deep oyster-form, as is the closed sheath. No chips, no cracks, all works smoothly. I see an age or materials hairline at side of one round of horn, yet it's completely sturdy and not a break - a natural flaw. Photos show all angles.
