Rare old beauty, c.1770-80 hand painted leaf further adorned with sequins and also silk embroider flowers and leaves, Romance era vignettes and cartouche with lovers and emblems of love. The carved and painted bone sticks have a plump Cupid on each. and carved perforations backed in what we think might be either straw work, or silk (back guard looks like silk). It's amazing to see something so seemingly fragile survive this well for 250 years. We have a lot of photos to try to show it. I do not think you should plan to actually use this museum piece, but it is a real beauty for display. Full measurements and lots of photos for your review. Oh, and ring has both of the old original French paste 'gems' in settings. Found in France, of course.
Very good to excellent condition considering age and type. I can point out that there are no breaks nor apparent restorations to the guards, sticks or ribs (monture). The very elaborately decorated and hand painted, embroidered and sequined paper leaf is complete, though you will see that there are some splits along the very old folds. Gold foil 'ribbon' edging is complete and with only a couple of fold splits on that. In hand, I have a sense that there has been preservation from the back leaf. I can see one rice paper tape (no yellowing).
