An exceptional and large hand carved Swiss Black Forest glove box (elongated shape would have then been to store gloves), remarkably well preserved with 2 large graceful pheasants up top. Big and impressive, nearly 13" long and it's 9" tall. Full measurements are noted on the photos. Beautiful anatomical capture by this talented artisan, as well.

There is no damage at all to the fowl, one leaf frond tip has an obvious old repair (visible in photos), and that's really it. Slender legs are fine, the long tail feathers remain undamaged. A top quality Grand Tour souvenir, no doubt, with its carved cabriole legs and the canted corners.  The old interior is original and shows a little bit of disruption to the bottom liner. One might wish to put in a matching silk bottom liner of silk-covered card. Simple to do. Leave the old original in place, though, as it's more valuable all original. There are 2 very small pieces of outer liner wood trim, I've marked them with 'x to show where they are. You'd otherwise never notice. Truly a fine example of the Swiss carver's art.
