Souvenirs of the Grand Tour, the charming bears of the Black Forest carvers found their way home in number as the travelers of the burgeoning new 'well-to-do' of the Industrial Era burst forth. We're the fortunate beneficiaries today of the old Swiss carvers' tradesmen goods. This one would date about c.1900, and is a 7.5" tall standing young bear with glass eyes, carved to hold an open match box and either tobacco for pipe, or as shown here, cigars or cheroot.
Very good to excellent condition with age and type considered. So cute, glass eyes and no breaks apart from a little nip to outer edge of his one ear. Full measurements are noted on the photos. The match box and cigars are not included - just props.
