I've had this one for ages. I love it! Purchased long ago in France, it weighs about 8 lbs, is heavy solid cast bronze with an old greenish patina. There is a tin liner with a lift-out bottom panel that supports your potted plant, or a dish with your floral arrangement, but is not a waterproof planter. I looked for a foundry mark, thinking it might be Barbedienne, but I didn't find one. My guess is it's a one of a kind casting. It's cast SO heavy!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this is truly thick cast and very heavy. The legs are not perfectly symmetrical as you can see, but are wonderful old legs, paws, and it rests perfectly flat. It almost seems like a huge lost-wax one of a kind, really. The motif on sides includes a shell. It's beautiful from all 4 sides. Age has taken some of the patina off, which just makes it all the more gorgeous to my eye. Lots of photos to show it from all views. I should have it with 3 orchids. I'm sorry, but I can't easily get to the florist. But imagine it. Stunning! Measurements are noted on our images.
