A superb 4" x 3 1/4" aperture showing off this handsome gentleman in his heavy double-breasted overcoat, bright copper-looking buttons with quite amazing detail. Hid piercing blue eyes and light blond hair might suggest his homeland, but the painting was found in France. I suspect he might be English, and the coat has a hint of military to it, perhaps, though the cravat and vest might not. Beautifully crafted, yet on the face of the painting, no signature. This one is sealed into the old original wood and gesso appliqué frame, and I haven't opened it. I would guess the painting is a bit larger than the aperture measurement, and likely shows his hands and quite possibly a signature might yet be found to the outer border. I'll leave it to the next owner. The old frame is 8 3/4" x 9 3/8" outer measurement and a full 2" in depth. Displays beautifully, thought there is a little loss to the frame (noted on photos with x).
Very good to excellent condition, the painting is superb, protected beneath a flat cover glass. Frame, as noted and marked, has a little loss to gesso appliqué, particularly the lower right corner, but a nip or two elsewhere. Displays beautifully and is of nice size for a portrait miniature grouping.
