Remarkably appealing subject, superb size to hang on wall. This is a c.1500s or possibly late 1400s woven wool French Aubusson panel, a museum piece, superb subject fragment of what would surely have been a full wall palace or chateaux hanging. I am unsure if it is a King and Queen, but it has a feel of it. Several horses, a lot of men with banners and at least 2 women. One of my very best tapestries from a lifetime of collecting them. It has been beautifully restored for hanging, a 2" woven border and a linen backing as part of its professional preservation. There are hanging loops across the top, ready to hang. Superb colors, magnificent figural scene. It is 57" wide, a rectangle (slight distortions in my photos, but it is even, not off-kilter) and 48" tall. Will be perfect hung above a bed, a mantel, a stairway. . superb size.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. As noted, has been professionally worked and restoration done within the past 100 years. A linen backing and woven border, ready to hang. I can point out that there is a section of verdure worked into/onto the old tapestry lower left which works very well and seems like bushes. There are not unprepared separations we often see in older panels. This one is ready to hang. It also does not have a musty scent. It has that light scent of wool. Remarkable to find one with so many figures. I bought this one in Paris many years ago. Time to let someone else enjoy it.
