Sculptor: Jules Moigniez (1835-1894), French
Animalier era snip in flight. 8.5" tall. Plinth is 8.5" x 5.25" oval, 1" in height. Heavy solid cast.
Jules Moigniez was a French animalier sculptor who worked during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. Exhibited in many museum collections and top private collections, Moigniez is considered one of the very finest sculptors of the Animalier era. This is from my own collection, in fine condition. Hunt and nature theme, it is superb in a home where Black Forest is featured, lodge, cabin, fine manor home decor.
Very good to excellent condition without any breaks or chips to the mounted black and white marble plinth. The bronze is solid cast, very heavy. No flaws to note. The bronze has the signature of artist. The work is, as expected with Moigniez' art, unparalleled. The age shows on the deteriorated felt bottom liner, as visible in our photos.
