"Presumed to be Madame Aug. Ch. Piroux, born Marie-Rose Bride (1775-1869). Provenant of Madame Frederic Clarel, Born Amelie Philippe, her daughter". A very old attached and hand-written label on the back gives us a place to begin research on this beautiful young woman. A very long life in her era, she would have lived through the French Revolution, Napoleon, (during which this painting would have been done based on the clothing and hair - c.1810-20), through the Restauration (Louis Philippe, etc) and on to Emperor Napoleon III's reign, last Emperor of France. What a time of important history in the world and in France. Measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and time considered. She appears here, some 200-210 or so years after her portrait was done. The artist has not signed this wafer, but evidently a Master of miniatures - her face is a mere 5/8" from chin to hairline. To capture her Empire gown's subtle fabrics in red, and the lace - and my favorites are these landscape portraits along with interior views with portraits in their surroundings. Charming!
