Beautiful gray eyes! In the era of Louis-Philippe, (France's King from 1830-1843), the style was as you see in this early 1830s portrait. Off-shoulder, a change from the French Empire gowns, and a shift to early Victorian jewelry and multi-parted hair done up as you see it here, with ringlets on side, a long braid chignon/bun high and back. This portrait has a halo from someone cleaning the glass at some point with water, allowing a tiny bit to seep along the edges of the glass and moisten the gouache painted background of this precious portrait. Otherwise, it is just stunning. Signed by artist, "Labroue", I have not researched either this artist or tried to learn who she is. Fashion interest, jewelry interest - a charming one for a doll's house from period, too.
Very good condition for age and type, as noted above there is a pale halo of moisture disruption (it doesn't take much, these are fragile!), but otherwise a splendid painting. No warp nor crack, chip to the wafer, and she remains in her original period frame with oval brass mat and cover glass intact. Beautiful young woman! Measurements are noted on our photos.
