Interesting fashion era, the elongated lace collars and mutton chop sleeves. The clothing and hair dates the painting to late 1820 to early 1830s. Of interest, as we usually can depend upon a center parted child's hair to indicate a girl, but this little child looks possibly to have trousers on, or else her skirt is pulled a bit between her legs. She holds flowers and so does her mother. Flowers have iconographic symbolism, can be a political statement or a religious one. I am unsure of these. Her jewelry is simple but plentiful. Beautiful faces on both mother and child by an unknown but very adept artist. I do not have any identities. I have had this beautiful 3" diameter painting for decades and still love it. I found it in France too many years ago to remember exactly where. Portrait miniatures of children remain rare, and this is one of the sweetest of them all.
Very good to excellent condition, all original, I did take the painting out of the brass mount and wood frame in order to get very clear photos for you. While there is a very tiny edge flaw on the otherwise round wafer (at 3 o'clock position), it is obviously original and the artist has just painted it. You won't notice it in frame, either. Charming intimate pose, with child on mother's lap as she sits in a red straight back chair. Measurements are noted on the photos.
