"Juillet 1893" signed on the vellum which is still sealed to the back of the wafer on this exceptional French Impressionist portrait of a beautiful young woman. Perhaps she's French, or perhaps a young woman on Grand Tour - an Edwardian honeymooner, perhaps, and took the time to sit for her portrait. Is the artist's name Juillet? Is it her name? We don't know. She's chosen to mount her elegant portrait in an equally elegant (and I think even older) dore bronze frame. The frame is, itself, a valuable antique which I think dates a minimum of 50 years earlier than the portrait.  Measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout. An exceptionally fine portrait with influences of the French Impressionists, I think quite evident. No damage at all to the wafer which still is sealed to its original vellum (kid skin) backing. Protected under glass, mounted with a thick gold pebble mat and inside a truly spectacular French frame, easel back. No damage to frame or glass, nor painting.
