That is a wonderful small painting of a wooded landscape with Cupid and Psyche depicted. A favorite scene and story of the Empire era and before, it would certainly have been a thrilling gift for some lover or other in the late 1700s to earliest 1800s, when it was originally crafted. The box is simple, elegantly made, with a sterling silver mount top and bottom rims, and a very smooth fitting shell of a box that measures 3" in diameter and 7/8" high when closed.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No damage to note, really, apart from some abrasions of age on the silver. The convex cover glass has preserved the painting perfectly well. It would appear it is painted in gouache (or guache) on paper or card from the way the surface accepts the paint. I have not taken it apart to see, but feel certain I am right on this. No damage, no losses, just a bit of age for its 200+ years.
