Elegant antique French Napoleon III era TAHAN marked scent caddy in jet black ebony or ebonized veneers with brass strip inlays & edgning, hand painted floral portrait miniature style medallion or cartouche and two gorgeous blue opaline glass & reticulated ormolu perfume bottles inside, each with a unique eglomise Grand Tour style souvenir Scene! One of two beautiful old French perfume caskets that we're adding today with eglomise souvenir scent bottles, this one marked "TAHAN, rue de la Pair 30" making it a work by one of, if not the, most sought after makers of the era. The miniature floral painting in the lid somewhat of a signature also, we've had several pieces over the years with similar scene and almost always accompanied by the signature or marking of the maker. A wonderful piece here!
Very good condition. There is some faint wear to the ebony finish and a thin age or drying split in the top/lid veneer. The mother of pearl escutcheon is a restoration and the interior 'fitting' and base lining have been replaced. One of the blue opaline bottles has a flash chip on the lower right side corner but it will still hold fluid (no leaks) though neither has its original inner stopper.
