First off, let me say that the match box and pipe are NOT included in this offering. They're shown only for ambiance and to give you a sense of size. The fabulous little Black Forest bear stand is what you're looking at here. Superb anatomical study, it's carved and preserved with equal finesse. This one is different from most we've seen or had over time, as it has that open bin for wooden matches and also a striker panel (emory board) as well as the open holder for pipe or a bag of tobacco or both. It is possible, probable, that the round opening originally had a brass cup for use as an ashtray. That no longer is with this one. Still, just as he is - marvelous, no?
Very good condition, as noted above. No chips to those ears and seated bear precludes any chips to legs. The entire piece is just wonderful. A panel of sand paper (emory board) is there as a striker, and the spot is recessed to hold it. Measurements are noted directly on our photos for your review.
