He's a big and glorious anatomical study, entirely hand carved by some Master carver of the region referred to as "Black Forest", Swiss, mostly. The bear is over 8" long and big in form, a bull in all his glory, one of the finest carvings ever. Someone has, over time, mounted him to a thick beveled solid oak panel that just begs to be posted with a lamp mechanism and shade, do you agree? Or just displayed as he is. The plinth is 12" long, and bear is over 8", which is a larger bear by most standards. Impressive for shelf of desk display in your lodge, cabin, or Country French home. All measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition, no breaks or chips, and he has glass eyes as you can see, and a painted mouth (a' la Brienz) The bear has been mounted (screws, as you can see from the bottom view), so could also be removed, but the thick heavy old base is part of the appeal - so easy to mount a lamp mechanism on this one. Would be SO charming! All measurements noted on the photos. And I'm adding a shot at the end that shows one of the lamps we made (we've made a lot) with a wood plinth and a bronze labrador, just to give you the idea of how items like this can turn out (that's one of my bedside tables, pardon the rather bad impromptu click).
