The set was made in England, Royal Doulton, and specially contracted to be sold through famed San Francisco retailer, S & G Gump Co.. Belle Epoch style, everything opulent, dripping gold, elegance! The set of 6 dinner plates you see here are a perfect example of their era. Thick gold rims, gold encrustation, and hand applied gold enamel work making them almost jewel-like. Here we have a set of 6, which is my favorite dinner party size, by the way - 6 to 8. Most recently from an anonymous important estate in LA/Hollywood, they come to us in near-pristine condition. Photos show them well, and full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I really see nothing to report by way of flaw. No chips, no hairlines, no crazing to the glaze. No missing raised gold, and no rubs to the cobalt borders, either. You know they're top quality by the additional gold applied to the rise/rim on the plate's bottom. I can't help but wonder at the names of history's famous Californians who've been served with these gorgeous antique plates, from San Francisco to LA. . . . to you!
