Wonderful antique Victorian era Black Forest 'Fruits of the Hunt' style 19" wall plaque PAIR with unique marine or sea theme including crabs, fish & seaweed and all carved in heavy, solid walnut hardwood! Perfect for the yacht, wouldn't you say :). We've had numerous Black Forest plaques over the years but this is, I'm sure, the first pair with a nautical or marine figures. Normally you see creatures and critters common in the areas where the carvings originated, the Alps and including bears, deer, mountain goats, hunting hounds & game... The figures you see here wouldn't have been the most prominent of the Alpine fauna for sure (though I'm sure the Alps are teeming with fish-filled steams & lakes). Of course, all of us can't own yachts but these would also be great for the seafood lovers OR, the seafood restaurant owners! Fabulous crab or seafood shack decorative items!!

Very good condition. Solid, heavy walnut, each weighs around four pounds (8 lb, 3oz total). There are two hairline age or drying splits in the upper left of the fish plaque, at around the 11:30 o'clock position. A small portion of a seaweed stem has been chipped off of the fish plaque also, hear the tail of the left fish. The finish on the plaques has what looks like darkened lines or spots in places, as if too much stain was applied and not properly wiped off. See pictures for measurements.
