A very intricately braided or plaited hair art piece, elegant bracelet with 10k clasp which is set with faceted cut steel. This would be a mourning bracelet, and the hair art is quite incredible in this one. I've tried to show it to you enough that you can see it is dimensional, finer work than any we've had. The deep brunette hair must have been exceptionally long to work this way without loose ends showing. The bracelet appears to have never been worn, or at least there are no frayed spots. While at first glance it seemed to have a French gold mark, under magnification it is not (see images), but the clasp tests 10k. As it lies, it is 6" long, but it's very stretchy and can easily fit up to a 7" wrist. Other measurements noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. One can see a tiny bit of corrosion on the cut steel 'gems', but to naked eye it disappears. Beautifully crafted, both the woven braided hair art, and the clasp. Dates c.1840-70.
