Oh, yes! I'm a box collector of a lifetime, and they still thrill me no end. The artist's and cabinetry maker's elaborate and often one of a kind creations, sometimes to be filled and often already filled with incredible treasures - they will always thrill me. This one, a simple 'gloves box' from the size, shape and drop front design, is elevated to a fabulous work of art. Inlays, marquetry of brass boulle work, a bit of shell to highlight and contrast against the black lacquer exterior. That carved ruffle mitered trim was a design mainstay from the Louis-Philippe era in France, c. 1840 or so, and I believe carried forward on this one which likely dates c.1850. Certainly, it is Napoleon III era or c.1850-70s at latest. Remarkable condition, still with all inlays flat, all trim crisp and rippled, and the original silk-lined interior fully intact, too. None finer. Add that the working lock retains its original key - splendid find! Mine? Or yours?  Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and type considered, I really see little if anything to mention as a flaw. The lacquered exterior shows a little age, but is unbroken, no cracks or chips to detract. All inlays are firmly in place, all original. This one has been very well-treasured. I found it in France. Silk is superb, no odors and no stains or tattering. Very fine!
