Here's a wonderful old shell snuff box, French in origin, and sporting a fine hand painted portrait miniature of a beauty up top. The box itself is solid shell, not just shell-lined, and is in quite fine shape.You see a few lines in the top of the lid, perhaps, which are a bit of age, but are not breaks; more like scratches from use, I suppose. A bit of a mystery, since the old cover glass is undamaged and the portrait is also perfectly preserved. A nice large table snuff, it's a wonderful addition to your collection of either snuff boxes or portrait miniatures. No warping to the 2 halves, which fit nicely together. Thick and rather heavy pieces of shell, both top and bottom, and a wonderful piece.
