What a stunning beauty we have found here, and I don't just mean her looks. This is an oversized "miniature", at 5.75" x 4.75" oval, and she's housed in a wonderful early 1800s French bow-top frame of dore' bronze. The cover glass has protected this one perfectly and she shows no warp or damage to note. Her hair and jewelry, fashion is that of the Louis Philippe era in France, from which she comes. That would be c.1830s. The bodicer she wears and her drop earrings and the long muff chain she has wrapped double around her forehead - all would have been fine gold and pearl, rubies or garnet at the least. The opulent yet simple black velvet gown she wears shows her so nicely, and sets off the jewelry perfectly. A slightly Mona Lisa serene smile graces her lips and eyes, so that she is most appealing as she gazes full-on from her point in history.

Very good to excellent for age and type, we see nothing by way of flaws to note. I also see no signature of the very adept artist who did this fine portrait. No mention of the ID of the sitter, either. Shown in and out of frame, scanned for finer detail than a photo will capture. The flattened wire stand shown does stay with this painting as it was original to it. A nice easel for the painting. Done in gouache, perhaps water color - typical.
