Still has the old original intaglio print calendar inside, dated 1822, which is right also for the item. A coveted old beauty in fine mother of pearl, brilliant color pearlescent shimmer and elegant incised engraved design and "Souvenir". The small 18k gold medallion with kiln-fired enamel pansy or flower is signature for the finest quality Palais Royal goods from the boutiques of the old Cardinal Richelieu Palace. The original note pad remains inside and the original pencil stylus is there to operate as clasp, holding the palm-sized dance card and note card closed. Note the repeat of the floral brass tip on the stylus. Framework for the carnet bal is ormolu, not 18k gold. Selling my own collections. This has been a favorite. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Over 200 years old now, it presents in remarkably unscathed condition. No breaks or losses to the mother of pearl front and back panel, and no breaks or losses to the ormolu framework - a tiny lift/bend at base of spine which I should have pushed flat. It will be simple to return to flat fit. The signature 18k gold and kiln-fired medallion is in fine condition.
