Overall, this alter cloth is 47" long and 18: tall at center, 17" long at both ends and trimmed in a thrill of lush 19th century French gold metallic passementerie 3" fringe, tassels, and further with braid/woven ribbon trim. The ornate hand embroidered cross is flanked by the most gorgeous heavy silk embroidery. What a stunningly beautiful textile! It still has hanging loops all along the top. The base color is almost metallic, itself, a sheen to it, and is that fabulous French mustard/gold in color.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, there are no holes, no tears, no hanging trim, no moth loss or deteriorated silk in the embroidery. Slight fade or variation in the overall yellow color fabric. There is a texture to that fabric. I'm unsure if it's silk but seems likely to be. I can't get to an edge to do a tiny burn test. The backing is a little to peach in color and is a high quality cotton fabric. Only the best for 19th century Catholic France placement. The fringe is lush, fabulous, valuable on its own!
