Found in Paris, I'm unable to be certain whether it is French in origin or Dutch (Netherlands), as each created splendid marquetry chests and elegantly appointed tantalus in similar form. "Continental" will suffice. Remarkable to find completely original glassware decanters, tray and cordials, and no loss or damage, even the original stoppers remain. The box or chest, coffret is elaborately inlayed with contrasting wood shell and scalloped corners, delicate stringing ornamentation and not a bit of it is missing or lifted, no veneer loss or lifts. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, remarkably retains all original and undamaged glassware, and even the original woven silk jacquard lining, though as you'll note, it shows wear and some loss. This type of chest may have traveled across the seas in ship's captain's quarters, or adorned the den, office or library of Royalty in its time, which ranges c.1810-1830. Hardware all in place, including a working lock, but we have not matched a working key to it at time of listing. We'll continue to try but listed without working key, as shown. If we find one, we'll annotate and raise price accordingly.
