The gold mounted 7mm pearl hanging from the pocket watch hook on this portrait miniature brooch is someone's adaptation, as more typical to have seen a very early gold watch. The brooch mount is beautiful, and acid tested at 10k-12k, various parts. It is obvious the painting is on mother of pearl plaque, visible from the back. I think it would have original had a locket inset in that back, likely holding a lock of hair, which would be typical. Hinged pin back and c-clamp. Beautiful old portrait of a lady, c.1750-70s fashion. Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition, a notation that I think it has lost a locket-inset backing at some point. From the back, one can see the mother of pearl back to the painting. Very old period convex polished cover glass, evidence it has had a mounting adaptation. The single drop pearl is 7mm, pinned in what appears to be 14k gold and is likely not of the same era. The brooch appears to be a lower karat gold. I will acid test and adjust our listing accordingly.
