Still working through a huge stack of fabulous antique needlework and loomed tapestry fragments found throughout the past 4 decades while buying in France - all with the idea of making them up as lushly fringed and down-filled opulent throw or decorator pillows. They're clean, odorless, archival stored and in excellent condition for use as intended. THIS one is a very fine and very early 1800s petitpoint (super-small stitches in the needlepoint style, entirely done by hand. Delicate neutral palette of florals, you can see from the backside the original colors of the handmade wool and silk yarns used. The faded colors are due to age and light, it having been a chiar back covering in some grand chateau. The additional beauty of this being such tiny stitches really elevates it. A strong and supple canvas, a single spot where someone has done a very professional and invisible restoration, but you can see the patch of canvas and stitching from backside. Fabulous large panel - will not be fragile for a pillow top.
Very good to excellent condition, the measurements are outer, 25" wide and 22" tall plus a 2" strip of silk (not measured in). No holes, no weak or moth-eaten areas at all (I only bought the best panels). Large enough to use for upholsetering a bench or a chair seat, or to make a square, rectangular or round large pillow. Suggested cuts shown in image. No stains, no tears or weak spots, one old restoration visible only from back, and no odors or bug damage. Very strong panel!
