Painted in 1893 and signed by artist, E. Vildieu, this is a fine oil painting on canvas, portrait of Henri V (5) c'Artois, Count of Chambord and Duke of Bordeaux was disputedly King of France from 2 to 9 August 1830 as Henry V, although he was never officially proclaimed as such. Afterwards, he was the Legitimist pretender to the throne of France from 1844 until his death in 1883. Born in 1820 at Tuileries Palace, Paris, he died in Austria in 1883, so this painting was done posthumously, possibly from another painting. The Chateau de Chambord (my all-time favorite among many) was presented to him and left in his 'personal property' even in exile. He claimed rightful Monarch throughout the reign of Louis Philippe, on to the Second Empire (Napoleon III) and the Third Repbulic. You will definitely want to learn his entire story.

Very good condition for age and type. The painting, an old canvas, has been professionally bonded to a fresh linen canvas for preservation, as you can see. As mounted, it is 25 1/2" x 21 1/4" and the stretcher depth is nearly 1". Ready to frame. It has had some touchup at upper perimeter, and a small chip to paint can be seen to right perimeter, which will likely be covered by a frame, or easily touched up if you prefer no frame for display.
