Some time back I listed and almost immediately sold the portrait of a beautiful girl from this interesting pair, purchased long ago, shown with this one in the final photo. The carved wood frames were a matching pair at some point, though this one is painted in a darker palette, and isn't in quite as good a condition as you can see - a little more loss to left, part of the 'leg' and a little trip up toward the top. German, Austrian or Dutch, northeastern Europe origins, the portrait miniature housed in this one has a look of an old Rembrandt, don't you agree? Quite unique - the oil painted carved wood frames. The painting of a gentleman in this one is a slightly small wafer, can't be certain it is original but it is how it came to me. Full measurements are noted on the photos. Has a Swiss feel to the painted frame, as well as French form.
Good to very good condition for age and type. As noted above, the portrait miniature wafer is small for the aperture. Convex cover glass is in excellent form and apart from a couple of losses to the frame, it still has interest of being unique, hand carved wood which has been oil painted. Photos show it well. It came to me with the back sealed as shown. The woman portrait in final photo was purchased with it as a lot, but has already been sold some time ago - shown for ambiance.
