Superb Napoleon I to Charles X Era (c.1810-30) French sewing tools, the old Palais Royal boutique special Nécessaire everyone covets, but this one has some special features. Note the unusual gilded gold foil dolphins carved into the handles, 18k gold and mother of pearl trimmed out with 18k collars, and 18k trim on some of the other sewing implements. Tools: Scissors, spool, silk winder snowflake, crochet tambour/needle case combo (missing the anchor screw), wax seal, vanity tool with ear wax spoon and 3 toothpicks retractable into the mother of pearl handle. Finally, a thimble trimmed with 2 bands of 18k gold, but which has damage (see detail photos for review). There would have also been a bodkin, or lace-threading needle, which has gone missing. Unusual to have a wax seal. I do think the tambour is a replacement tool, slightly misfit for the recess. The original silvered mirror remains inside without any damage, no chips. The etui itself is beautifully preserved outside and inside, and the padded silk protector and all chenille remains intact. A splendid set! Measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. These rarely survive without something lost or damaged.
