Stunning & rare antique Napoleon III or Victorian era 16.25" fireplace bellows, exquisitely detail in the hand carved adornment over the entire face including two magnificent winged griffin or gryphon figures and in wonderful condition! A truly remarkable museum quality decorative accent! It sure seems like a long time since we've found a really great carved fireplace bellows, the dry spell ends with the two wonderful specimens that we're adding this week and a few more to come as soon as we can get them photographed. Beautifully hand carved front panel, the detail is truly remarkable. The rear panel with less ornate carved figural griffin accents and a unique heart shaped air intake. Carved in what appears to be mahogany or rosewood with a warm dark finish. As a perfectly usable decorative accent next to the hearth, can't beat this one!
Very good condition. As noted, the baffles have been restored with new 100% genuine leather so the piece is ready for another 100 or so years of use. A few small edge nips but no larger chips, no cracks or warping to the solid wood panels. There are two screws in the end of the handle, meant to secure a leather strip for hanging, but we can remove them or add a leather strip, just let us know which you'd prefer. See images for all measurements.
