The Grand Tour travelers of the Victorian era - travelers of wealth and standing, created industry in tourist souvenirs, and they bought them and had them sent back home as gifts and as proofs and remembrances of their wonderful travels. This one a Bohemian souvenir of the now Czech town of Marienbad, the front of the piece with "Andenken von Marienbad" and each of the sides with an architectural engraving (one entitled "Kreubrunn" an the other appearing to be "Ambosiusbrunn"). Marienbad is home to hundreds of cold, curative springs. The largest and prettiest garden town in the now Czech Republic, a jewel of architecture surrounded by beautiful parks and forests. The town, surrounded by green mountains, is a mosaic of parks and noble houses. Most of its buildings come from the town's Golden Era in the second half of the 19th century, when many celebrities and top European rulers came to enjoy the curative carbon dioxide springs. Many of the world's greats – including Goethe, Twain, Freud, Nietzsche and Strauss – have sipped the healing waters :). A lovely Grand Tour era souvenir mug or stein here with two engraved architectural renderings and ounce markings near the handle.

Very good condition. Some light surface scratches visible and there are a few tiny nips but no larger chips, cracks or damage to note. Holds a total of roughly 8oz to the rim, markings go up to 7oz.. See pictures for all measurements.
