Early 1800s rendition of this popular Staffordshire platter, mostly made for USA market, was from a transfer engraving inspired by the original painting by John Trumbull, and gained immediate popularity. The old ones go very high at auction, what remains of those early production pieces. The platter was released in subsequent renditions, also Staffordshire, to satisfy demands, and this one is one made later on. I would consider it a 'reproduction', though origin is still British Staffordshire potters, and the image and border remain the same. As a 20th century (likely mid-1900s) platter, it is for display rather than investment quality, and is priced as such. Beautiful vintage one, the full measurements are noted on our photos, 18.5" x 14" x 2" in depth. Meant to be a decorative platter.

Very good to excellent condition, this one has none of the crazing one would find on the ones produced c. 1800s, yet all the appeal for decorators and historians. British Staffordshire blue transferware is always in fashion! No chips, no hairlines, no cracks - fine condition throughout. I purchased this one in with a top notch lifelong collection of a family in Ohio, and this is the only piece in the collection that is vintage rather than antique. Do browse to see the real treasures from that important anonymous collection. Everything from early CLEWS to SPODE, and more.
