Rare pristine set of 6 1830s Charles Meigh (Hanley, England, potter 1835-49) dinner plates. They're 9" diameters, but the early ones are smaller in size than later productions. Poppies and chrysanthemum, swirl of silver and highlights in gold - extremely beautiful! The imported plates were made in China (higher quality processes than available at that time in England, having to do with kaolin) and then hand decorated and painted in England. I've give more of the Meigh history directly on the photos, by the way, as well as overall measurements. The plates are thick, as you can see from sideview. The pattern is spectacular! One of my favorite sets. There are 6, as noted, stunning for wall decor or as cabinet plates, or 'lift' plates to decorate your table, but please please do not eat on these - they're too pretty to end up with utensil marks. As you see, these bear the Chinese maker's mark as well as those of the famed English potter. I think some of the most beautiful multi-color patterns (Imari) came from this firm.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I find not a single chip, no hairlines or cracks, no evidence of any restoration. The kaolin process/plates were finer, seem less prone to crazing as well, though there are a few imperfections in the glaze - not much. From my own collections, being disbursed.
