From my private collection comes a few fine Napoleon III to Belle Epoch raised gold enamel porcelains. This one is a fabulous amphora vase on heavily gilded lion head and horse's hoof tripod cabriole legs. A work of art by M. Redon, a Limoges, France porcelain decorator. Opulent raised gold porcelains like this one date mostly during the turn of the 20th century, c.1890-1910, "Belle Epoch". Amply signed on bottom, It definitely has a Chinoise feel to the decorative style, but also a bit to the Renaissance. Entirely hand decorated, thick impasto gold enamel rising in bas relief from the shiny cobalt surface - my favorite decorative style on porcelain. Overall, with lid in place, it is not quite 7 1/2" tall, and at widest point it is 3 1/2" in diameter. I have a matching amphora also listing today, but the other one is completely undamaged, and will be priced higher, accordingly. They display beautifully together as you can see in final photos. All sold separately.

Very good condition for age and type, hardly even a rub to all that thick gold. Flawed, and priced to accommodate the break to legs, base. Two legs and a bottom or base corner have been rather roughly repaired after a break, and yet it's still a gorgeous old thing. Shown from all sides, the cobalt blue glaze is super-shiny, you can see our photography lights glaring on it. Fabulous thick gold enamels pretty much entirely intact. Look also for the other raised gold enamel porcelain pieces in our final photos, sold separately.
