Absolutely gorgeous antique French likely Baccarat brilliant cut crystal & brass or gilded bronze, a 4.5" tall single inkwell with exquisite faceted wheel cut base that shimmers like diamonds, unique gilt wire Art Nouveau style base fitting and bulbous top! Isn’t this one beautiful! Inkwells have always been one of my loves, over the years I've been able to find and offer more than enough museum quality pieces to fill a reference book (many published in others' texts with our permission). Not sterling silver, this one has a unique gilded base and cap and the thick, heavy cut crystal body is mostly likely Baccarat though we can't be certain with no markings. This size is often referred to as "paper weight" inkwells, these heavy treasures are fabulous decorative accents and getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. This one especially fine with the expansive, extensively cut crystal body shimmering within the gold colored 'nest'. Very good to excellent condition. There is some age discoloration to the lower portion of the brass or gilded cap/collar and inside but no notable dents, damage or repairs. A slight push to the wire base fixture but, as you can see, beautifully preserved. See pictures for all measurements.
