Height of fashion in her time, c.1805-1815, this beautiful brunette might well have had her portrait done for her parents as she left home as someone's bride, or perhaps for her husband upon her marriage. She's young, perhaps 20 or less, and the navy blue low bodice Empire gown with a tease of rippled lace is quite stunning on her form. Red coral, traditionally, had been seen as a talisman with powers to protect young women, particularly their virtue. This young woman wears her double strand bead necklace and the elegant Empire tiara regally. Perfect painting, really, composition and palette. It looks almost like a signature is there off her sleeve, but I've shown it enlarged and can't make it into a signature. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent for age and type. No chips nor hairlines or loss to the superb Empire portrait miniature, itself. Some wear to the old original wood frame, typical of age - remember it's well over 200 years in age. That's roughly 10 generations ago. The original slightly convex and polished cover glass is in place and without damage.
