Late 1800s 3-tier swing-away jewelry casket, chest, 11" tall to the top of the elegantly carved pair of birds and 10 1/2" at widest. The lock and working key each intact. The top lifts up and hinged, swings back and the top 4 drawers swing to the sides to reveal 4 compartments to sides and then a much larger compartment in the bottom. Such a beautiful old thing, likely someone's Grand Tour souvenir, c.1880-1910.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, no woodworm infestation, a nip to one of the tail fans on the upper bird. The linings of each drawer is still nicely preserved in the original silk velvet with piping. There is one decorative panel on one side which is missing its carved floral mount, not so noticeable, really. One of the prettiest of these we've had in ages.
