Either a bride and groom, or perhaps brother and sister, this pair of c.1820-30 English portrait miniatures have been painted by the same artist at the same time, and beautifully mounted and kept nearly 2 centuries in their original carved wood gilded frame. Each has a convex and polished cover glass still in place, and at some point the interior glass has been cleaned and the backing sealed again. Part of an earlier backing, perhaps, retained, the type is in German. It is possible the couple are German, based more upon that than they look or clothing. Quite formal, each, looking a bit more stiff than do our French sitters. Together as they are, a beautiful collection set. Photos have been taken through convex cover glass, which can create slight distortions or some glare in the photography lighting. Full measurements are noted on the photos. Found in England.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the paintings are undamaged, housed in a lovely 200 year old frame which shows no damage, and under 2 separate convex and highly polished cover glass panels, neither of which has any damage. We rarely get frames this old which are without any loss at all. Carved in wood, a gilded surface, it is superb. The pair will hang beautifully on your wall, or rest on an easel.
