Seems strange to think that anyone would go to so much trouble to create a box specially for packets of needles, doesn't it - in our time, at least, it would be paper or plastic. But in early Victorian times, a tiny wooden casket of wood, domed beautifully and proudly raised on tiny steel feet. That they are veneered so stunningly in fine old shell, though - well, THAT is the real killer touch, isn't it. And here is one of the finest of the old ones, still with its embossed paper liner intact, and hinge and clasp working well - it not only looks fabulous, it's perfectly ready to display or to put back to work as your needle case. These are perfect in groups, along with your larger tortie boxes and tea caddies, of course, giving the group scale and interest. It's how I display these at my own home.

Very good condition, as you can see. No missing tortroise shell veneer, working hinge and lots of cut steel 'jewels' up top on this beautifully mottled old tortie box. Dome top - orignal paper interior and bottom. All you need are packets of needles.
