These are harder to find as time goes by. This particular one is superb, apart from a nip to the beak. Large and charming, and everyone's favorite for their Country French kitchen or bar top. It is identifiable as a smoker's stand, however, with that match holder with striker panel carved there to the side of the barrel. The prancing cock is a wonderful carving. I've shown it with an oversized matchbox (European, antique) and with 5" Davidoff cigars to give an idea of scale, but those are not included.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and type considered. Entirely hand carved wood, Swiss Black Forest, it's a fine sculpture. Superb rooster with a little nip on beak tip and one vine or limb chipped. Both are marked with an "x" for your review on the photo spread, as are the measurements. A lovely lighter color to the wood, perfect for Country French decor. Some use these for a small jardiniere. The opening up top is 4" in diameter, and it's 3" deep. Please don't put a pot in there without protecting the wood from moisture, though. Isn't it superb!
