Well, he's my favorite! You know I have lots of favorites, of course, but this very handsome young gentleman, his sidelong gaze and his confident forthright eyes and elegant clothing, mutton chops of c.1830, and the pristine condition he and the large table snuff box are both in, capped by an 18k gold mat and a perfect original convex cover glass - well, what's not to love. I think the photos on this one will tell you all there is to know, except that I have not taken him out of his mount so all images are through convex glass and there are a few glares to factor out as you look. That one area of light across hi shoulder to right of frame, however, is on the hand painted wafer. I can't see a signature, but there could be one hidden by the 18k gold mat, or in papers that back the image. Are you in love yet? (smile)
Very good to excellent condition throughout, I see no flaws to note really. There are no chips nor hairlines nor cracks on the stunning burled wood snuff box with its shell edging, nor on the entire interior lining. He's been treasured! A museum quality snuff, one of the best of my collection. So often these have beautiful young women, or distinguished old men. This gentleman! Very slight rim bend above his head on outer rim of the 18k gold mat/mount. That fuzzy light spot on his shoulder, right of image as you look at him. Nothing else. Stunning in all ways!
