I don't have a Catholic background and therefore feel inadequate to describe the use of this stole. I see them primarily as elegantly embroidered silk panels which can be used in sewing projects like decorator pillows. This one is fine claret-red French moire silk, lined in same, and hand embroidered in gold and silver metallic threads, trimmed in fringe of the same. There is a faded silk ribbon tie still attached, and the typical cross and the position of back of the neck, if worn. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent for age and type (c.1880-1920), there are no holes, stains or odors. One could create a superb down-filled decorator throw pillow using the 2 embroidered panels as central focus. I've seen pillows made where the stole is still whole and simply sewn onto a beautiful pillow, up and over the top. Easy projects, elegant materials. The gold is bright and complete, even on the fringe which is 2" long.
