Robert Jacques François Faust Lefèvre  (1775-1830) Painter, Miniature painter

Aliases: Robert Lefèvre, Robert Jacques François Faust Lefèvre, Robert-Jacques-François Lefèvre

Found in France, impossible to pass by because she wears the intricate lace and starched cap of northern France and on to Netherlands. The notation on back places her in history (Director), dating her to c.1790-1800, based on the clothing, fashion. A low bodice, Empire gown, pale salmon coral necklace and earrings which were then less costly than red coral. A country girl, perhaps ready for a wedding, or a painting made to leave with her family as she married and perhaps left the area 'forever'. Red coral was thought to have protective properties, particularly for young girls. "a young girl of joy (?) le Borjup (?) ___ le Directoire, by Robert Lefevre" (the artist). I believe this designates her as a Merveilleus, of the fashion trend "incroyables et merveilleuses",  I've written much about this group and the dates are the same. The facing on her frame is gold, more than plate - a plaque adhered to the brass. That, too, suggests the period and the young people of that movement. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition. No chips nor hairlines to the small painting, and with exception of a drilled hole at top of frame, it, too, is very fine.
