Listed artist: Victorine TREVERRET (Quimper 1802-Paris 1875)

Portrait in 3/4 pose: Marie-Caroline de BOURBON-SICILE, Duchesse de Berry (1798-1870. The portrait is her in her youth, likely not later than c.1830-35. Her costume is also a confirmation of th painting's date. Signed lower right (see images)

A rare painting, this artist is well-listed and her works are scarce to find. I have attached a reference to the other miniature I was able to research, which brought over $5800 at auction in France (4 7/8" x 3 3/4" of Marquise Pauline d. . . ). Our larger format miniature is 17.5 cm x 22 cm in a heavy bronze mat within an outer original silk velvet covered 5/8" thick frame which is 31 cm x 23 cm, with ornate hanging loop and chain up top.  The artist took her training as pupil of Marie-Victoire Jaquotot (1772-1855). TREVENNET's active years were from 1836-1842, and prior to that was a painter of figures at Royal Manufactory du Sèvres from 1820-30. She was a medalist in the Salon of 1827 and her works are kept by various museums. This painting is in watercolor or gouache on card, and I do show it with frame opened from back. Original 1830s glass is now very clean, the painting re-set and sealed.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The painting is immaculate, very well preserved in the sealed housing. Original old frame style is, typically, showing a little age loss to the silk nap of the velvet, and one can see a few exit holes from a very old infestation of woodworm (also typical from France, 200 years on).  Displays beautifully. Will retain and increase in value.
