Listed artist: Robert Jacques François Faust Lefèvre (24 September 1755, in Bayeux – 3 October 1830, in Paris) was a French painter of portraits, history paintings and religious paintings. He was heavily influenced by Jacques-Louis DAVID and his style is reminiscent of the antique. His portraits of Napoleon, Josephine, others in earliest 1800s hang in museums, fetch high prices at best auction houses. While he was working on this last painting, the Revolution of July 1830 took place, an event which was to deprive him of his support and official posts. Ill, depressed and desperate, he committed suicide by cutting his throat at his house on the night of 2/3 October 1830; he was 75 years old. He was buried in Père Lachaise cemetery, in Paris. Napoleonic Era.

A most incredible miniature portrait, by listed artist, "R. Lefevre" who dates his work c.1826.  We do not have the identity of the handsome gentleman with the interesting nose, immaculate dress and superb face, cleft chin and piercing gray eyes. The face is just 5/8", chin to hairline, yet has the same magnificence of Lefèvre's large portraits. Full measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The wood frame shows age, will improve with a wipe of stain and wax should you want it done. The painting is kept perfectly under its original convex cover glass and mat.
