"God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said Moses ! Moses." The theme os this charming girl's sampler, England, the tomb dated 1777, it is a young girls needlework sampler completed in fine silk threads and chenille work showing a humbled shepherd and his sheep, him with shoes off and bowing before a burning bush. In that Georgian era, girls were not always taught to read, but they were taught to do fine stitchery, and this would have been one done by a relatively young girl. The faces are painted, and you see the intricacies of the silkwork are in a lovely variety of stitches. A red stitched border around it.

Very good to excellent as these early silk embroideries go. The frame and glass are not original to it, but are protecting it beautifully. Little, if any, fading to the dyed silks, and no deterioration at all to the finely worked silk oval embroidery. Originally, the silkwork would have been framed with a cover glass back-painted in black with a gold edge to the aperture through which her needlework would have been displayed. This panel has been framed in a relatively modern frame with card mat which does not suit it very well, but does definitely preserve it. Archival cover glass to protect it from fading. One might choose to prepare an 'eglomise' (back-painted glass) panel for it and reframe with an antique frame. The value here is the very early silkwork tapestry, sampler. Full measurements noted on the photos.
