A beautiful piece of carved bamboo motif furniture, a lady's sewing tool for needlework or embroidery, or quilting, this is the floor stand size made for larger work use, a stretcher to hold the fabric or canvas tight so needlework can be worked beautifully. Entirely made of wood, this one has only 4 small metal bolts, 2 with butterfly wing nuts to tighten the angle of the frame, the longer ones used to anchor the cross bar at the base. It comes apart into small bundle for storage or for shipment, and assembles quickly when one wishes to put it to use. A beautiful finish and wood, finished in a carved bamboo motif, it's pretty when out and in use, as well - like fine French furniture. Complete, no flaws to note, full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it is the type used from 1700s on, and I would date this one mid-1800s, Victorian, or Napoléon III era, and very like the one shown in the painting which we've shown at the end of our listing photos. Some age to the wood, but no breaks, no repairs. Bun feet on bottom. Sturdy, and cross bars open on hinges to reveal a line of anchor tacks to make putting fabric in very simple procedure, then closing to anchor. Beautiful finish to all the wood.
